Notice
of Annual BSA Membership Fee Increase
You may have already heard the news that the National
Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America will increase the Membership Fee/Dues
effective January 1, 2020. This is
true. There are several reasons for such
a large, sudden increase. While
costs to the organization have increased every year, the Boy Scouts of America
has worked to keep the annual membership fee as low as possible by subsidizing
core costs, including liability insurance they must carry to cover all official
Scouting activities. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to subsidize at
the level they have in the past, especially as the cost of insurance has
increased dramatically. We assure you that they are necessary in order to keep the same
level of Scouting and still meet with the ever rising cost of BSA operations.
The
Annual Membership Fee/Dues will increase effective January 1, 2020 to:
$60 for youth members in Cub
Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts,
Note: due to our Pack
Scout year, we must pay this Membership Fee by November 30th
Any
Membership Fee/Dues already paid for next (2020) year’s Scouting will be
subtracted from the said $60 Membership.
In addition, those Scouts that sold popcorn have earned money that will
be put in their account known as the “Popcorn Bowl”. This money can be used towards the $60
Membership.
There are other ways
to help with the increase.
The BSA has extended
the time for selling popcorn. Therefore,
you will have another opportunity to pad that Popcorn Bowl account. Talk to your Den Leader or Cubmaster for the details
regarding the popcorn sale extension.
Another form of help with the Membership Fee
would be for Medicaid recipients to contact these services to have these fees
waived. Below are the Indiana Medicaid providers.

Please understand Pack 129 had no input in
the Annual Membership Fee changes or its timing. We will try to answer any questions and definitely
work with any hardships in hopes scouting will continue to be an important part
of your scout’s life. We ask you to
carefully weigh the cost of Scouting, verses the value of fun and education
that Scouting offers.

My son has medicaid insurance under anthem. I called to inquire about the fee waiver and they said they didn't have anything like that but had a form for fee waiver of the boys and girls club.
