Notice of BSA fee increase

Notice of Annual BSA Membership Fee Increase
You may have already heard the news that the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America will increase the Membership Fee/Dues effective January 1, 2020.  This is true.  There are several reasons for such a large, sudden increase. While costs to the organization have increased every year, the Boy Scouts of America has worked to keep the annual membership fee as low as possible by subsidizing core costs, including liability insurance they must carry to cover all official Scouting activities. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to subsidize at the level they have in the past, especially as the cost of insurance has increased dramatically. We assure you that they are necessary in order to keep the same level of Scouting and still meet with the ever rising cost of BSA operations.
The Annual Membership Fee/Dues will increase effective January 1, 2020 to:
$60 for youth members in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts,
Note: due to our Pack Scout year, we must pay this Membership Fee by November 30th

Any Membership Fee/Dues already paid for next (2020) year’s Scouting will be subtracted from the said $60 Membership.  In addition, those Scouts that sold popcorn have earned money that will be put in their account known as the “Popcorn Bowl”.  This money can be used towards the $60 Membership.
There are other ways to help with the increase.
The BSA has extended the time for selling popcorn.  Therefore, you will have another opportunity to pad that Popcorn Bowl account.  Talk to your Den Leader or Cubmaster for the details regarding the popcorn sale extension.
Another form of help with the Membership Fee would be for Medicaid recipients to contact these services to have these fees waived. Below are the Indiana Medicaid providers.

Please understand Pack 129 had no input in the Annual Membership Fee changes or its timing.  We will try to answer any questions and definitely work with any hardships in hopes scouting will continue to be an important part of your scout’s life.  We ask you to carefully weigh the cost of Scouting, verses the value of fun and education that Scouting offers.
Thank you for your understanding,

Proven Methods of Selling Scout Popcorn!

Show & Deliver:
This method provides the highest positive responses and has benefits over the Take Order method, as it often eliminates the return trip to deliver product. Scouts bring along corn as they go door to door. When a sale agreement is reached the Scout goes to the car, gets the product, and delivers it on the spot while the customer pays. If the desired product is not on hand, the Scout performs a Take Order and returns with the ordered product at a later time. You can return any unsold product to the council.

Take Order:
This method involves uniformed Scouts going door to door to take orders for popcorn. Only about 20°/o of households are contacted about supporting Scouting. There is plenty of untapped market for the sale. Mom and/ or Dad take an order form to their work. Fellow co-workers write their order on the order form. The parent then delivers the product and collects the money in a few weeks.

Show & Sell:
This method involves setting up a table or booth at a high foot-traffic location (like a popular grocery store) where you can greet the public and offer your sale. The best results occur when Scouts are very visible, because we are selling the Boy Scouts of America to our customers.

Selling Online:
For the first-time on-line sales have been fully interrogated into the fall sales campaign. This way everyone can order popcorn straight from your Scout's account and it is shipped directly to them! Sell Online at www.popcornordering.com

REMINDER!

September Pack Meeting

                                                                        Image result for reminder

Just a reminder, tomorrow night is our September Pack meeting.   We will start at 6:30.    It will be at Ellettsville First United Methodist Church, in Rogers Hall (basement) - We will be kicking off our Popcorn Fundraiser.

Below is information regarding Scoutbook.   Scoutbook is the BSA's online unit management tool and helps Scouts, parents and leaders track advancement and milestone achievements along the Scouting trail.

Parents of returning scouts:  You were sent a Scoutbook invite in May.  If you have not accepted that invite, please do so ASAP.  If you cannot find the email, please notify Stephanie Worden at sworden4@gmail.com for a new one.

Parents of new scouts:  Once the pack has your scout's application and registration fees, Stephanie Worden is entering them into Scout Track.  You will be sent an email invite to Scoutbook and will be able to login, but you will not be able to see your scout listed under "My Family" until their application has been processed by the scout office.  Applications are being taken out to the scout office weekly.

Parents of all scouts: We are transitioning to Scoutbook because in 2020, council offices will no longer support third-party software, which Scout Track was.  We cannot go back to Scout Track.  We ask for your your patience during this transition.

If you cannot see your scout listed under "My Family" once you have clicked on the "My Dashboard" link, try the following:
1.  If you have a my.scouting.org account (necessary for Youth Protection Training), use your Scoutbook username and password to login instead of the temporary password you were sent.  This may require resetting the password for Scoutbook.  If you need assistance, first try this link.
2.  Email Stephanie at sworden4@gmail.com, explaining the problem, and giving her the parent's name and the scout's name.
3.  If the above steps do not work, submit a Help ticket to scoutbook.support@scouting.org.

If under your scout's name it says "No rank", that will update once the Bobcat Badge has been completed.  If your scout, for example, is currently a Wolf, but the rank under their name says Tiger, that is correct, as they have earned the Tiger rank and are working on the Wolf rank.

If you have any questions about Scoutbook, feel free to email Stephanie at sworden4@gmail.com .
SEE YOU TOMORROW NIGHT!

Requirements for the

Cub Scout Bobcat Rank

Every Cub Scout must earn the Bobcat rank and should do so as quickly as possible. When s/he is ready to test, let an adult leader know before the meeting begins. If the leader agrees that he is ready, the Cub will be asked to lead that meeting's opening, during which he will be asked about the requirements below:

1. Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
The Scout Oath or Promise is a pledge to help our community, our world, and ourselves.
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
2. Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
The Scout Law consists of twelve points intended to guide the behavior and decisions of Scouts and adult Scouters. The Scout Law is:
A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
3.  Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
The Cub Scout sign is made with the right arm held high with two fingers making a "V". The two fingers stand for the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. They also look like the two alert ears of a wolf ready to listen to "Akela" (ah-KAY-lah), the name we give to any good leader.

4. Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
The two extended fingers of the handshake mean that you will help each other to remember and obey the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

5. Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
The Cub Scout Motto is Do your best.
Do you best means trying your hardest. Do your best at home, at school, playing a game, and working on rank advancement.

6. Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
During a flag ceremony salute the American flag with two fingers of the right hand to show respect for our country. If you're wearing a hat, touch the hat brim. If no hat, touch the tip of your eyebrow at the end closest to your ear. The two fingers stand for the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. Salute the American flag only when in uniform. If not in uniform put your right hand over your heart.

7. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse." The pamphlet is pasted into the front of each Scout handbook. A copy in PDF format can also be downloaded from:
http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/46-014.pdf
